The Role of Argument

Image
What is popping in your head when someone says the word 'Argument'? Even for me before studying philosophy, I think the word argument means a quarrel or conflict between people. A logical argument should not be confused with the type of argument you have with your sister or brother or any other person. Let’s look at a situation when my sister and I were arguing.      Me and my sister was arguing about whose turn it is to bring snacks from the kitchen. I told my sister that she should do it because she is a girl and girls are better at kitchen stuff. Sister responded that being a girl has nothing to do with whose turn it is. She reminded me that according to our work chart, we are responsible for our bearer work on alternate days. She told me she bought the snacks last day; therefore, it is my turn that day. I was defeated, finally, bought the snacks from the kitchen.      So, what is really mean by argument? The definition of...

PHILOSOPHY

Image
"Philosophy if it cannot answer so many questions as we could wish, has at least the power of asking questions that increase the interest of the world, and show the strangeness and wonder lying just below the surface even in the commonest things of daily life"  -Bertrand Russell- As you read the heading, this blog is completely about Philosophy. Philosophy is all about the beautiful mystery behind history. The blog contains the basic idea about philosophy, about philosophical method and its branches.    WHAT IS PHILOSOPHY? The word philosophy covers a vast area in the real world. There is a series of answers to the question, What is Philosophy?. What is the Socratic Method of teaching?

Image
What is the Socratic Method?     The Socratic method was derived from the Greek philosopher, Socrates. In order to delve into his students’ view, he would ask them questions until any contradictions were exposed. Socrates also used this method of questioning to encourage people to question the things they were told and to look beyond the obvious.      Under the Socratic method, there are various ways that professors can question their students.      For example, a professor might pick a student at random and question them (rapid-fire) for the entire duration of the class. The ultimate goal is to trip the student up and cause holes in their argument. Example of a Socratic Method Lesson     This type of lesson begins when the professor calls a student randomly and asks for a summary of the case from the previously assigned reading. The student will be required to recite a brief summary, including the facts of th...

Father

One of the world-famous hypotheses is that the boys love their mother more than their father but, the truth is for most of the boys, they love their father and mother equally. Indeed, they get to know about their father's love and efforts when they grow bigger and bigger. Most of the time, fathers are being rude. They shout at us, they punish us, they advise us. Of course, those things will annoy and irritate us at that time,  but one day you will realize everything. The love behind those words, the care behind those shots. Sometimes it may be late. So don't be late anymore. Go to your father and tell him how much you love him and enjoy every moment you spend with him.
